CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR 2024 OUTSTANDING REPAIR PROJECT AWARD WINNERS:
1st Place: St. Ignatius Church Restoration
Founded in 1741, St. Thomas Mission, now St. Ignatius Church, is the oldest Catholic Parish in continuous service in the United States. The Manor House, St. Thomas Manor, is a two-story, seven-bay, brick structure of Georgian architecture, constructed in 1741 and suffered fire damaged in 1866. The restoration scope at St. Ignatius encompassed all façade elevations of the Manor House, Chapel & Church. The scope for the project included repointing, brick replacement, masonry joint reinforcement, window restoration, cornice restoration, timber repairs, chimney reconstruction, limestone band patching, wall reconstruction, entrance stair tread replacement, installation of a new lightning protection system, reconstruction of sun porch, installation of new windows.
2nd Place: Watergate South Balcony Repair
The final scope of work included new coatings at the balcony soffits, new horizontal membrane at the balcony slabs, precast repairs to the perimeter balustrades, and painting of all metal items – handrails, guardrails, façade panels, storefront windows, and door frames.
3rd Place: Westminster Historic Clocktower Rehabilitation
The project included many facets of large historic restoration projects, but was isolated to a 14’’x14’ area. Countless construction materials were incorporated in the rehabilitation (e.g., wood, structural steel, aluminum, copper, brick, concrete masonry, grout, slate, EPDM, PVC, fiberglass, glass, coatings, etc.) which complicated coordination of trades unique.
Honorable Mention:
SK&A: Crystal Park Complex Garage Repairs
The comprehensive repair program ultimately included restoring all deteriorated structural concrete to sound conditions and waterproofing of the structure via expansion joint seal installation, chemical grout injection at foundation cracks, and application of a urethane-based waterproofing membrane over all elevated decks.
CP&R: AVA Ballston Square Apartments Restoration
The owner worked with a consulting engineer to develop a full-scale façade and balcony restoration project. The scope for the façade would include concrete repairs, spot brick replacement, tuckpointing and 100% façade sealant replacements including sealants around all windows and doors.
